Inchcape Shipping Services Launches Anti-Piracy Initiative

February 1, 2012

Inchcape Shipping Services has joined with Vessel Protection Solutions to launch a new anti-piracy initiative for vessels and their crews. They are offering certified systems that are designed to combat rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms fire. Counter-measures include a Light Armor System Against Shaped Ordnance (LASSO), a high-tensile steel mesh which is deployed around the bridge and short-circuits an RPG projectile; Ramor 500, specially designed lightweight, armored steel which protects the bridge and vessel access points; a range of lightweight armor which includes Lloyds-approved ballistic doors, weapon cabinets and removable ballistic panels; and Anti-Ballistic Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), offering certified body armor, helmets, hard-armor plates and soft-armor panels designed specifically for maritime applications. The lightweight vests and helmets offer additional protection against fragmentation and blunt trauma.
