Bourque Data, Satamatics Integrate Railcar Location Tools

Bourque Data Systems, Inc. (BDS) and Satamatics have undertaken the integration of their respective technologies. BDS is a provider of rail logistics software. Satamatics is a vendor of satellite-based telematics, the use of wireless communications to track transportation assets. The two have integrated Satamatics' Inmarsat D+ satellite communications network with BDS's RAILTRAC software for real-time locating and monitoring of railcars via global positioning systems (GPS). Several pilot programs are underway with large hazardous-chemical shippers, the partners said. The RAILTRAC GPS mapping and reporting tool provides warning indicators when a shipment falls out of pre-established tolerances. The technology will aid hazardous-material shippers in complying with new U.S. government regulations. The equipment features a battery life of more than five years, along with real-time polling capabilities on a global basis.
