Janam Unveils Portable RFID Tag Reader for Rail

The handheld radio frequency identification (RFID) reader delivers the ability to read automatic equipment identification (AEI) RFID tags to the palm of the hand, the company said. It was designed for mobile workers in freight and rail operations, with the ability to read tags required on all railcars in North America as well as those in wide use globally. The 13-ounce device reads AEI tags from at least one meter away. It is equipped with a user-addressable compass for use with transportation applications, a 3.2-inch color display, Motorola SE4500 2D imager for decoding of hard-to-read barcodes, and support for the Microsoft Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 operating system. The rugged mobile computer can withstand multiple four-foot drops to concrete, Janam said.
