Boston Consulting Group Launches Platform for Reducing Empty Containers

The platform can help to cut costs and emissions for shipping companies, by boosting the number of container exchanges among logistics companies and reducing the movement of empty containers by as much as 30 percent, BCG claimed. It allows for direct exchange of containers and other equipment between market participants such as liner shipping and logistics companies. The xChange platform will enable automated identification of potential transactions, providing an end-to-end online interchange process, live updates help to satisfy equipment needs, and integrated data management and logging. The system has been tested by a majority of the top 20 global ocean container carriers and leading leasing companies, BCG said.
