An International Distribution Challenge

June 17, 2019

Challenge: A company that offers 65,000 products in more than 40,000 stores across 100 countries was seeking more transparency in its supply chain. A recent promotion involved seven stock keeping unit numbers of new products — packaged in 196,000 cartons — which were to be shipped in over 150 ocean containers. The company wanted increased visibility and streamlined communication for a competitive, consistent price.

Solution: FedEx Trade Networks managed ocean freight from China to Los Angeles, drayage from the harbor and all distribution services — while FedEx Express, FedEx Ground and FedEx Freight handled the final delivery. The customer also required a UCC128 on each carton for proper scanning in-store. This would allow products to move directly from the vendor in China to stores in the U.S.

Results: The company achieved 99.8-percent on-time delivery to 3,200 stores throughout the U.S.

About the Solution Provider: FedEx Trade Networks integrates international freight forwarding, customs brokerage, order management, trade and customs advisory services and value-added advantages that work together to create comprehensive solutions.
