The Fashion Apparel Supply Chain Has a Visibility Problem

January 20, 2022

Bob Bowman

Is sustainability in fashion in the apparel supply chain?

Few industries can match the fashion apparel sector for supply chain complexity. It relies on multiple tiers of farmers, suppliers, mills and manufacturers the world round. Not surprisingly, achieving visibility into that agglomeration of partners is a challenge. According to a new survey from Serai, conducted with KPMG, fewer than half of the 200 companies responding have a deep understanding of their supply chains. That lack of transparency makes it impossible to adhere to standards for environmental sustainability and promotion of human rights. On this episode, we delve into the survey’s results with Serai CEO Vivek Ramachandran. He explains why so many apparel companies have failed to live up to sustainability goals, and what they must do now to correct that shortfall. The price of failure is high. Hosted by Bob Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of SupplyChain Brain.
