Solving the Warehouse Labor Shortage: Part 1

April 06, 2022

Bob Bowman

Warehousing and transportation providers need solutions for coping with what looks to be a long-term shortage of labor.

Don’t expect the labor shortage to go away soon. Signs point to a long-range problem, one that stems not only from current economic conditions, but also from the nature of warehouse work and its appeal (or not) to prospective workers. On this episode, we dive into the problem with the help of Ryan Uhlenkamp, vice president of supply chain execution with Blue Yonder. He stresses that companies must innovate in their talent-recruiting efforts, in line with the changing nature of warehouse work. And he explains the role that automation is playing in helping distribution providers become more efficient — even as they continue to need human workers in the warehouse. Hosted by Bob Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of SupplyChainBrain.
