Solving the Warehouse Labor Shortage: Part 2

April 14, 2022

Bob Bowman

Warehousing is suffering from an acute shortfall of labor. Is automation the answer?

The labor shortage is nationwide, but it’s especially serious in the warehousing and distribution sector. We’re said to be about half a million jobs short of current requirements, and another half a million over the next three to five years. On this episode, we trace the origins of the crisis with Dave Haley, senior supply chain adviser with Open Sky Group. Will automation result in the need for fewer human workers on the warehouse floor? Not necessarily, says Haley. And unless it’s accompanied by careful planning and business-process change, automation could very well make things worse. Hosted by Bob Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of SupplyChainBrain.

This episode is sponsored by Open Sky Group.
