Do Humanoid Robots Make Sense in a Warehouse?

June 21, 2024

Bob Bowman

Are robots that are modeled after the human form the best choice for warehouse operations?

To many of us, the word “robot” conjures up an image of a machine that’s designed to look like a human — with head, torso, arms and legs. But when it comes to staffing a warehouse with modern-day robots, is that the right way to go? Or should we be thinking differently about what constitutes an ideal robot in that environment? On this episode, we explore the practicality of humanoid robots in a warehouse setting. Our guest is Lucas Tesler, associate with Silicon Foundry. He discusses how advanced those machines are today, the relative cost of deploying them versus relying on humans, the tasks for which robots are best suited, and whether they will ultimately supplant humans in the warehouse altogether. We also touch on the role of artificial intelligence in designing the perfect robot. So, should we be rethinking the whole idea of the robotic warehouse worker? Hosted by Bob Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of SupplyChainBrain.
