Why Manufacturing Lags in Protecting Against Cyberattacks

March 28, 2025

Bob Bowman

When it comes to effective cybersecurity, manufacturers are way behind the curve.

For three consecutive years, manufacturing has led all other sectors in experiencing cyberattacks, accounting for about a quarter of all reported incidents. Why, in the age of digital transformation and the availability of innovative security solutions, is this the case? On this episode, we learn why manufacturers are lagging in their cybersecurity efforts. Our guest is Rob Larsen, security adviser to Silverfort, provider of an identity security platform and former chief security officer at General Motors. He explains where the biggest vulnerabilities lie, the communication gaps between individuals within the organization who should be collaborating on shoring up systems, and why manufacturers have failed to apply “classic security principles.” He also offers a plan of action to correct the problem. Hosted by Bob Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of SupplyChainBrain.
