Importance of Data Centers Evident Despite Cutbacks

December 24, 2008

About half of data centers are responding to the economic crisis by cutting their 2009 budgets, by an average of 15 percent, according to a survey by the AFCOM Data Center Institute.
The overall cuts were "surprisingly low" at the 49 percent of data centers that are curbing spending, says Jill Eckhaus, CEO of the Association for Computer Operations Management. Eckhaus says the fact that only half of data centers are making cuts is evidence of how important data centers are to businesses. Indeed, even though half are cutting spending, that means--of course--that budgets for the other half are either staying the same or increasing. Not long ago data centers were known as the money pit, she says.
