Avery Dennison Introduces Stamp-Sized, Item-Level RFID Tag Inlay

January 21, 2009

Avery Dennison RFID has introduced the AD-805 RFID (radio frequency identification) tag inlay. Approximately the size of a postage stamp, the device is especially suitable for tagging small items in densely packed retail and healthcare environments, according to the vendor. The tag's "edge-on" reading capability makes it ideal for plastic or cardboard blister packs, Avery Dennison claimed. Edge-on reading can be difficult because the narrowest portion of the tag is facing the reader. In certain applications, the AD-805's read range is enhanced when in proximity to metal packaging or items such as sunglasses. The unit is rated EPC Class 1 Gen 2, ISO 18000-6C, and designed to be ROHS compliant. Avery Dennison manufactures inlays for label converters to construct RFID tags for consumer packaged goods companies, as well as the retail apparel, supply chain, pharmaceutical, aerospace and defense industries.
