Horizon Lines Inks New Terminal Agreement at Port of Oakland

January 13, 2010

Horizon Lines Inc., a provider of domestic ocean shipping and logistics services, has signed a new agreement for marine terminal operations at the Port of Oakland, Calif. The carrier has teamed up with Ports America, the largest terminal operator and stevedoring company operating in the Americas, to service cargo moving through Oakland between the U.S. mainland, Hawaii, Guam and Micronesia. Service enhancements at the new terminal include extended gate hours for early deliveries and lunchtime deliveries on Horizon's ship days with dedicated truck lanes. All transactions are processed via electronic data interchange, with shipment status updates available through NetCaptain, Horizon's online shipment-management portal. Previously, the carrier utilized APM Terminals as its stevedore and terminal operator, at the former facility located at 1425 Maritime Street. Horizon Lines, LLC owns or leases a fleet of 20 U.S.-flag containerships, operating five port terminals linking the continental U.S. with Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, Micronesia and Puerto Rico.
