Automakers based in South Korea are taking action to address the growing fears over EV safety, after an unplugged electric Mercedes-Benz sedan caught fire.
The port plans expand its storage capacity for liquified natural gas, and set up corridors to provide that fuel to other shipping hubs across South Korea.
The factories will be built in the U.S. in South Carolina, Germany's Lower Bavaria region, Shenyang, China, Debrecen, Hungary, and San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
The problem threatens the bid to phase out diesel-powered machinery by 2030, because the shift means cargo-handling companies are becoming more dependent on the electric grid.
