Lufthansa Cargo is expanding its service network for the summer. Pending regulatory approval, the cargo division of the Lufthansa Group plans to operate MD-11 freighters to three new destinations: Shenzhen, China; Calcutta, India and Barcelona, Spain. The new services are scheduled to begin Mar. 27. In a joint venture with Leipzig, Germany-based Aerologic, direct connections will be provided from Lufthansa's hub in Frankfurt to Houston, TX and Lahore, Pakistan. With the expansion, Lufthansa Cargo will be serving more than 20 cities in Asia direct with freighters. The twice-weekly connections out of Frankfurt boost to six the number of destinations served by the carrier's aircraft in India. The Aerologic joint venture will improve connections between Frankfurt and the American south with Boeing 777F freighters. Shippers now have access to a direct flight on Saturdays between Frankfurt and Houston. Lahore also extends the Aerologic route network, with Boeing freighters operating summer flights on Sundays from Frankfurt to northern Pakistan.
