The liner services group of Crowley Maritime Corp. is launching a new roll-on/roll-off liner cargo service between Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; San Juan, Puerto Rico and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Scheduled to take effect March 17, the fixed weekly schedule is aimed at customers shipping cargo between the islands, as well as to the Caribbean from Crowley's Pennsauken, N.J. and Jacksonville, Fla. terminals. Crowley can handle project cargo, including heavy and oversized items, in addition to its standard and refrigerated container shipments. Key products moving in the trade include pharmaceuticals, steel and rebar, beverages and produce. Cargoes in the Northwest departing from the carrier's Pennsauken terminal are scheduled to connect with the new ro/ro service on Thursdays, while those in the South Atlantic, departing from the Jacksonville terminal, will connect in San Juan on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
