Less than a year after Home Depot completed deploying 30,000 First Phone multi-function mobile devices to 1,970 stores, the handhelds have become a well-integrated part of the store environment. The retailer reports the devices are averaging 100,000 mobile POS transactions per week, significantly speeding up checkouts and boosting customer satisfaction.
If the current transaction rate continues, Home Depot could log more than 5 million mobile POS transactions annually.
"We have not historically done very well from a checkout perspective," said Marvin Ellison, Home Depot's executive vice president of U.S. Stores. "We wanted to have a faster, more friendly, more efficient checkout process. Customers love somebody to just walk up and ring them up right there and they can go out the door."
