Proposed changes in the federal hours-of-service for truck drivers and stricter driver safety requirements will have a negative impact on the bottom-line of motor carriers without a commensurate improvement in safety, says Brian Everett of Nasstrac. The reason is that the trucking industry already has made great strides at improving safety since the hour-of-service were last revised in 2003.
