It is estimated that approximately fifty percent of worldwide food production is lost due to inefficiencies in transportation, distribution and storage of perishables.The current US Administration has made food safety a major priority by increasing FDA funding and creating the Food Safety Working Group. There are major regulatory changes pending for 2011 that will likely result in increased FDA and USDA activity and place significant responsibilities on food processors to prevent contamination.

In an interview with Food & Beverage IQ Ms. Zucker stated, 'we continued our learning...to keep figuring out not only what is the industry doing, but what are food companies and standard companies doing to get terminology around some of these traceability and recall programs."
