The TMC division of C.H. Robinson Worldwide Inc. has opened a global "control tower" center in Shanghai, China. The location will serve as TMC's headquarters for Asia, in addition to a similar facility in Mumbai, India. The new office will provide TMC clients with Managed TMS (transportation management system) and control-tower services. It is aimed at international customers as well as domestic shippers in China, East Asia and Oceania. The facility also extends the coverage of TMC's global Managed TMS services, which already encompasses North America, South America, Europe, Africa, South and Southeast Asia and portions of the Middle East. TMC also operates control towers in Chicago and Amsterdam. All provide on-the-ground supply-chain expertise in multiple countries, along with a single Web portal for real-time visibility and the sharing of best practices across carriers and locations on global, regional and national levels. Components of Managed TMS include Six Sigma-based process engineering, advanced TMS technology and on-site TMS "power users," who serve as an extension of the shipper's staff.
