APL Logistics has begun deploying its own fleet of 53-foot containers in the North American domestic intermodal market. The company's new fleet of containers began entering service at the end of May, and is expected to reach 1,000 units by the end of August. The additions come in the midst of an industry-wide equipment crunch, APL Logistics noted, adding that 53-footers are the most common domestic containers in North America. The new boxes supplement those provided by the company's railroad partners, creating a larger pool of equipment for use in the region. APL Logistics' services include freight consolidation, warehousing and distribution management. It is a unit of Singapore-based Neptune Orient Lines, a global cargo transportation and logistics company.
