Swissport International Ltd., a provider of ground services to airlines, has been awarded the Safety Audit for Ground Operations (ISAG) certificate of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The recognition applies to the company's corporate headquarters and Zurich station. As a result, Swissport is now listed on the ISAGO Registry. Modeled on the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) framework, ISAGO is the first industry standard designed to improve safety and reduce damage on the ground. Swissport was monitored over a period of three days last autumn by KLM, an ISAGO auditing airline, which scrutinized the Zurich station in the areas of organization and management, load control, passenger handling, baggage handling, aircraft handling and loading, and aircraft ground movement, for both documentation and implementation. Swissport provides ground services for some 100 million passengers and 3.2 million metric tons of cargo a year, on behalf of 650 clients in the aviation sector. On the cargo side, the company uses 98 warehouses with a total floor area of more than 360,000 square meters. Swissport is active at 184 stations in 36 countries on five continents.
