Cargoitalia has been awarded a feeder contract by Africa West Cargo. The contract involves a program to provide a European link to Africa West Cargo by means of a weekly ACMI flight with Cargoitalia's MD11F, which will operate Milan-Liege-Lome every Sunday. The service will return to Milan, or on request, continue to Bamako, Niamey, Cotonou, and other destinations. Roberto Giladoni, Cargoitalia's commercial director, says: "This is a contract that works well for both parties. Africa West will receive the same ultra-reliable service from Europe for which Cargoitalia has become known since it s e-launch, and it will also gain access to the U.S.A. and Far East markets served by our scheduled flights. At the same time Cargoitalia now has regular access to a number of key African destinations.
In other action, Cathay Pacific Airways announced it is extending its cargo network. The airline is launching twice-weekly freighter service to Bangalore on Aug. 1. The flights will be operated with B747-400F aircraft and the new service will reinforce the carrier's position as one of the largest cargo operations in India. The airline operates 20 weekly flights to, from or through four major commercial cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennair and now Bengalulu.
