The International Warehouse Logistics Association (IWLA) has created a sustainable-logistics program for warehouse operations in North America. According to the organization, the Sustainable Logistics Initiative (SLI) is the region's first metric-driven, facility-output-based program of its kind. Data collected through SLI will help companies to adopt the best and most efficient industry practices for creating sustainable warehouse logistics. Participants engage in a rigorous measurement process, with the goal of continuous improvement at each facility. The process is verified by an outside independent organization, The Sustainable Supply Chain Foundation. Participating organizations will self-report and have data verified in the areas of environmental, social and profit responsibilities. They will each receive an SLI certificate to display as proof of their participation in creating an ecological supply chain. As their metrics improve, facilities can achieve silver, gold or platinum status in the program, which is available only to member companies of IWLA.
