APICS, the Association for Operations Management, has released the third edition of its APICS Operations Management Body of Knowledge (OMBOK) Framework. The publication defines the scope of the field of operations and supply-chain management, in addition to providing a resource for understanding the APICS body of knowledge. The latest edition includes two new sections on sustainability and risk management, with a focus on the emerging areas of corporate social responsibility, closed-loop manufacturing and disruption risks. The section on sustainability includes subsections on such topics as the triple bottom line, sustainable new-product development, green Six Sigma, carbon footprint analysis, reverse logistics and the United Nations Global Compact. The risk-management section covers the various types of risk inherent in supply chains, along with techniques to identify and mitigate risks. APICS' body of knowledge includes production, inventory, supply chain, materials management, purchasing and logistics.
