APL is adding a third vessel string, with fixed weekly sailings, to its CAX and MCX services in Central America. The move adds calls on the U.S. East Coast. The first voyage of the Central American East Coast (CAE) service is due to commence with a northbound departure from Acajutla, El Salvador on July 3. The vessel will call at Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala and Corinto, Nicaragua, then arrive at New York on July 10, at which time it will initiate its first southbound voyage. APL said the decision to add an all-water contingent to its Central American service was driven by the region's growth potential, especially in the areas of apparel, consumer goods and refrigerated cargo. APL provides container transportation with more than 60 weekly services and nearly 300 calls at some 90 ports around the world. It is part of Singapore-based Neptune Orient Lines.
