DHL has created a series of Security Monitoring Centers, through which the company can track ground shipments from origin to destination in Latin America. Using a geolocalization system, DHL's Global Forwarding division monitors shipping in real time. It also deploys various security mechanisms at the warehouse, including closed-circuit TV, access control and intrusion alarms, the physical monitoring of freight by trained professionals and armed guards, electronic and steel locks, and mobile global positioning system (GPS) technology. DHL Global Forwarding maintains seven Security Monitoring Centers in Latin America, located in Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela. Together they serve the entire region, DHL said. Their GPS systems are customized for the software and platforms of each country, allowing for the management of multiple GPS brands. Security teams are trained in theft and fraud detection. Using a variety of detection mechanisms, DHL can analyze and identify questionable shipments, making transactions and movements transparent to customers and law-enforcement agencies. DHL Global Forwarding is working with the BASC World Organization to obtain Americas Regional certification for all Latin American countries in which it has a presence.
