Motorola Solutions Inc. has introduced a pair of new products for imaging and barcode scanning on mobile phones. The new DS457 fixed-mount imager offers four models for high-volume scanning on a variety of barcodes, including 1D, 2D, traditional and mobile, as well as high-density barcodes and direct part marks. At the retail point of sale, the DS457-DL reads drivers' licenses, enabling the auto-population of credit and loyalty-card applications, as well as age verification. According to Motorola, the unit is well-suited for "zero-footprint" POS environments. It is also ideal for electronics manufacturers, the company said. Its other new product is the MK3000 micro kiosk, which enables interactive self-service in stores, hotels and airports, in addition to serving as a workforce-management tool for employees. Customers can use the micro kiosk to place orders online and pick up at the store. The MK3000 can also be used to check inventory in other stores, or place an order while the customer is still in the store.
