RedPrairie Corp. has improved the efficiency of measuring inventory generated by process manufacturers, including the chemical, pharmaceutical and food and beverage industries. Part of RedPrairie's warehouse-management software, the technology allows for the measurement of fluids, powders and other variable weighted materials. It is designed to improve operations related to receiving, picking, cycle counting, allocating and inventory movements. According to the vendor, the offering will lead to greater ease in the movement and tracking of raw-material inventory from plant storage through manufacturing. The new tool also contains features that aid in brand protection in the event of a recall. RedPrairie's software can trace the genealogy of raw materials back to the source, by tracking lot codes and manufacturing dates for each bill-of-material component used in the manufacturing process. In a related development, RedPrairie has integrated its Fleet Management system, picked up in the acquisition of GEOCOMtms earlier this year, into its Warehouse Management suite. The move will allow distributors and other companies with dedicated truck fleets to flow products from the shipping dock directly to customers. It also allows for the efficient processing of returns and non-deliverables, as well as the disposition of reusable assets such as shipping containers, racks and totes.
