Wavelink Corp. has released version 2.0 of its Avalanche SmartDevice Server. The update includes new features for managing smartphones and tablets. It also adds support for iOS 5, the operating system which runs on the iPhone 4S. Avalanche's tool allows administrators to track Apple and Android devices, and receive such information as street-level mapping of their location, platform data, battery levels, Wi-Fi status, Bluetooth information and VPM configuration. Devices that are lost or stolen can be wiped or locked remotely to protect corporate data. Administrators can create, revise and deploy policies and limit access to peripheral devices or unapproved applications. In the new release, Wavelink is offering support for both the Apple MDM (Mobile Device Management) and Google C2DM (Cloud to Device Messaging) protocols. Other new features include support for retrieval of active software on Apple devices, the ability to distribute AppStore software shortcuts, and support for carrier APN and proxy profiles.
