Located at the Port of Oakland, the operation will directly serve all ports, railheads and container yards in the state. The Oakland Container Drayage Operation is co-located with Old Dominion's San Francisco Service Center. The facility is intended to strengthen the carrier's network in California, which also includes a container-drayage facility in Los Angeles and 12 less-than-truckload (LTL) service centers across the state. Old Dominion's container-drayage division saw a 19-percent increase in drayage shipments in 2011, and a 35-percent increase in 2010. Earlier this year, the company opened its first container-drayage facility in the Pacific Northwest. Operations were begun last year in Memphis, Tenn.; Mobile, Ala.; and Baltimore, Md. Old Dominion offers direct service from 15 U.S. cities, in addition to the Oakland location.
