Membership has grown to nearly 80 companies over the first year, and several solutions group are working on operational issues. The first of these just published a white paper on best practices in overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). "Operations executives from CPG companies, big and small, got together to talk about what they considered to be best practices for implementing OEE and now we are sharing this with the entire industry," he says. The paper also will be the basis for a series of webinars in which the executives who worked on the report will share its contents and answer questions.
There currently are five solutions groups and four will be developing a white paper this year, Egan says. Areas of study include sustainability and workforce development, which he says "is a big area right now."
"Every company in the supply chain needs to have a trained, reliable, responsible, flexible and adaptable workforce to respond to all of the changing requirements of production operations," he says. "This group is looking at how to bring employees into an operation, how to motivate them and encourage them to make their job a career."
These reports will enable the whole of industry to benefit from the collective thoughts and ideas on best practices that the solutions groups are formulating, Egan says.
