Systems equipped with the company's "ecoForward" technology will consume significantly less fuel and run cleaner than earlier models, Carrier Transicold claimed. Engine power can be reduced by 18 to 20 percent, in line with EPA's Tier 4 standard for non-highway engines that are rated at 11 to 25 horsepower. For trailer refrigeration, efficiency improvements result in a 5- to 20-percent reduction in fuel consumption, according to the company. In addition, a new, custom-designed engine emissions system leads to reduced emissions and compliance with the ultra-low emissions standard of the California Air Resources Board. Carrier Transicold is applying ecoForward technologies to its trailer-refrigeration platforms, both belt-driven units and the Vector hybrid diesel-electric units, as well as the PowerLine generator sets that are used with container-refrigeration systems for overland intermodal applications.
