The action was taken in response to growing demand for reliable less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation across Europe, the company said. Departing the U.K. daily and Turkey twice weekly, the new service can also incorporate stop-offs in Germany, France, Belgium and Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The last is the home of GAC's regional base, and a key location for oil and gas and breakbulk activities. According to GAC group vice president Ivo Verheyen, Istanbul is emerging as a hub for exporters and importers, especially from Iraq and members of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). In particular, GAC said, the service is intended to provide significant cost benefits for the ship spares logistics sector. GAC is offering a wide range of trailers in support of the service, including low-bed, three-meter-high and tilt models.
