RMI, a provider of rail-information services to the transportation industry, has launched a new suite of services targeted at rail shippers, railcar owners and lessees. The services are being offered in partnership with Lodestar Logistics Corp. They are built upon RMI's existing Web-based freight management system for tracking, managing and analyzing rail shipments. Services within the suite include shipment monitoring (including diversions and forecasts of product and car supply), performance metrics, route optimization, fleet utilization and analysis, maintenance coordination (including programs for the shopping and cleaning of cars), freight-rate review and negotiations, and private-car accounting (including processing claims for under-allowed revenue, and reporting of state ad valorem taxes). According to RMI, customers get a range of services which allow them to offload any portion of the work involved in managing rail shipments and fleets.
