Exostar has developed an Item Unique Identification (IUID) compliance service for customers in the aerospace and defense sector. The program will help suppliers to meet Department of Defense mandates for traceability, accountability and predictability of parts management across the extended A&D supply chain. It gives suppliers and primary manufacturers visibility into the thousands of parts and components that go into products sold to the DoD. Exostar is offering the I-Guides IUID Compliancy tool through its relationship with Lockheed Martin, allowing for improved asset visibility and inter-operability between suppliers, contractors and DoD. In 2005, DoD mandated marking and registration of IUID using a two-dimensional matrix for numerous assets, components and parts. The hosted application streamlines customers' ability to meet those requirements across government and industry asset-management systems. Suppliers can accurately assign, verify and transmit IUID assignments mandated by DoD, Exostar said. They can choose their data-input options, either by automated batch uploads or manual assignments, enabling final transmission to DoD's UID Registry or the prime contractor or partner.
