Deutsche Post World Net, parent company of express and logistics-services provider DHL, has formed a new operating company with India's Lemuir Group. The two are consolidating a previous joint venture under the new name of DHL Lemuir Logistics Private Limited, offering services in India. The arrangement combines DHL Danzas Lemuir Pvt. Ltd. and Exel India Private Limited, which recently acquired the contract logistics and customs brokerage operations of Lee & Muirhead Pvt. Ltd. Exel became part of Deutsche Post World Net in 2005. The consolidation of services by the three players will trade in India under the DHL brand as DHL Global Forwarding for the freight forwarding business, and DHL Exel Supply Chain for contract logistics. According to the partners, the deal will give customers in India a greater breadth of service and geographic coverage. Deutsche Post will hold a 76-percent interest in the new joint venture, with Lemuir taking 24 percent. DHL estimates the value of the Indian logistics market at around US$45bn. By 2015, it is expected to reach nearly US$122bn, the company said.
