SmartMRO is the name of a new supply-chain services provider that stems from a partnership between Forge Industries and TrackSpeed, LLC. The new company recently began operations in Ann Arbor, Mich., with 41 employees in a 5,500-square-foot facility. It is offering to evaluate and manage all components of clients' supply chains, utilizing a Web-based technology platform. Brent David Ray, managing director and founder of SmartMRO, said the company was launched in response to a need by large manufacturers for better control of their logistics, warehousing and supply-chain processes. The new venture claims to address "critical gaps" in the supply chain that distributors, suppliers and indirect material managers might have missed. SmartPRO evaluates a company's core operational areas, such as product manufacturing, service and equipment providers. Each project is managed by a series of key performance indicators, including product cost; demand and consumption management; inventory, asset and spare-parts performance; process improvements and efficiencies, and stewardship initiatives. Service offerings include supply-chain management consulting, procurement and vendor evaluation, low-cost country sourcing, on-site supervision and staffing, and software development.
