Con-way Freight Inc., the less-than-truckload subsidiary of Con-Way Inc., will combine its three regional operating companies into a single, centralized operation with headquarters in Ann Arbor, Mich. The company has been running Con-way Freight-Central, Con-way Freight-Southern and Con-way Freight-Western as separate units since its formation 24 years ago. Up to now, each region has operated according to its own goals, practices and pricing models, the company said. Creation of a single entity will allow Con-Way Freight to adopt uniform processes and best practices for serving customers throughout North America. The move will enable the company to respond more quickly to customer needs, added John G. Labrie, the newly appointed president of Con-way Freight. The company provides guaranteed, day-definite regional and transcontinental service through a network of 440 service centers in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. It also offers delivery of international less-than-containerload ocean shipments from Asia, through its OceanGuaranteed service in partnership with APL.
