Trade Tech, a software application service provider focused on transportation and the supply chain, has developed a new online tool that meets the requirements of Mexico's new 24-hour rule for the advance submission of manifests. Under the rule, which takes effect on Sept. 1., manifests must be filed electronically with Mexican customs authorities 24 hours prior to cargo being loaded aboard ship. Trade Tech's new Mexico Cargo Security Filing service was created for freight forwarders, ship operators and cargo owners. According to the vendor, it is currently the only alternative to filing manifests directly through the website of the Asociacion Mexicana de Agentes Navieros, A.C. (AMANAC). The Mexican rule also requires that data be entered manually. Specific data elements for creating an electronic manifest include name and address of the shipper, consignee and party to be notified; number of packages; gross weight or volume of the merchandise; specific description of the merchandise; quantity, dimensions and seal numbers of containers, and detailed information about the vessel. Trade Tech's cargo-security filing applications allow logistics service providers and shippers to integrate their operating systems with each country's customs agencies, for the filing of cargo manifests.
