It is especially well-suited to low- to medium-throughput applications, Vanderlande said. Microshuttle can be expanded with additional shuttles as throughput requirements increase. The shuttles feature wireless communication and capacitors that provide on-board energy. As a result, they can operate autonomously, without the need for power rails in the aisles. Braking energy is used to reload the capacitors. Each location in the racking can also be reached manually. A shuttle requiring service can be easily removed from the system, while others take over storage and retrieval, Vanderlande said. The company provides material-handling systems to the distribution, parcel and postal markets, as well as airport baggage-handling systems.
