Both companies are wholesale distributors of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, founded by Miami-based entrepreneur Rick Nielsen, a native of St. Croix.

Lifeline Caribbean's board of directors administers its philanthropic endeavors and is composed exclusively of native Virgin Islanders. The board continually seeks ways to positively impact the quality of life in the Virgin Islands through the donation of goods, funds and time. "We know that the flu season is particularly aggressive in the Virgin Islands during the peak tourism season," said Nielsen.

"We want to do our part to help protect our people, particularly the most susceptible segments of the population which are the elderly and young children under the age of five."
