The acquired company will function as the core of a new, coast-to-coast, agent-based drayage and brokerage business known as US IntermodaLogistics. The new agent-based operation currently maintains locations in Chicago, Norfolk and the state of New Jersey. The agent model allows the carrier to increase its reach into new markets, as well as support existing customers, according to Ken Kellaway, chief executive officer of RoadOne. Serving as vice president of agent partner solutions for US IntermodaLogistics will be Mark Pontarelli, the previous owner of US Intermodal Inc. In that role, he set up agent-based intermodal drayage services in key market hubs, the company said. Based in Boston, RoadOne IntermodaLogistics was launched in January of 2013 by Kellaway and chief operating officer David McLaughlin.
