The new service will fly twice a week with MD-11 freighters. On Mondays and Fridays, the outbound flight will be via Dakar, Senegal and Manaus, Brazil to Peru. The return journey to Frankfurt will include stops in Quito, Ecuador, as well as Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Peru's export trade is dominated by fruits and vegetables, although Lufthansa also expects "significant" volume numbers for non-perishables. The country's foreign trade has been boosted over the past year by various free-trade agreements with the European Union, the carrier noted. In another company development, Lufthansa Cargo said it is negotiating with Chinese authorities to resume service to the Chongqing hub as of the end of October. Chongqing was part of the carrier's winter schedule for 2012, but was dropped due to poor demand in the summer of 2013. Lufthansa Cargo offers connections to 304 destinations in 95 countries.
