The company launched Preferred LCL in the spring of 2011. The service provides up to 20 percent faster port-to-door delivery to Mexico for LCL shipments, while delivering the economies of ocean freight, UPS claimed. The carrier is drawing on its existing North American freight network and the UPS CrossBorderConnect service. By integrating its LCL service, brokerage capabilities and CrossBorderConnect, the company can reduce customs delays caused by border regulations, inspections and paperwork. In another company announcement, UPS is offering a three-tiered service as part of its Temperature True portfolio for the healthcare industry. Customers can choose the appropriate level of service based on the degree of control needed, drawing on both air and ocean freight economies. The expanded service offers additional options for shipping temperature-sensitive products such as specialty pharmaceuticals, biologics, medical devices and diagnostics, as well as generic consumer health and veterinarian medicine items.
