Business intelligence takes on new meaning when it's used to make sure U.S. soldiers get mission-critical equipment when they need it.
Matthew Meinert, group chief of business systems and technology at the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Life Cycle Management Command Acquisition Center in Fort Monmouth, N.J., said that the military is using BI software widely to support soldiers in the Iraq war effort.
For example, Meinert says, BI tools are being used to search for defective batteries that could malfunction and cause explosions in Humvee vehicles.
"We can drill down, go into every contract we ordered that battery on ... and get them away from units so no one will get hurt," he said.
