According to the carrier, the tracking devices have been specially designed for use on board aircraft, and are the first consignment trackers to be officially certified. They switch off automatically during flight. Weighing 50 grams, the tracker can be placed by a shipper in any consignment, then returned by post after the goods have been transported. The service includes delivery of the device to the requested address, return after use and consignment tracking of the freight via a tracking portal. The offering is available to all customers of the freight airline, and throughout Lufthansa Cargo's global network. Customers pay only for the service as they use it, the carrier said.
