News Corporation, headquartered in New York City, has recently embarked on one very large green move--and this one initiative has the potential to impact millions of people around the world. Dubbed Cool Change, the program, launched this past spring, aims to create permanent, climate-conscious changes in every aspect of how the media conglomerate does business. Most notably, the company has pledged to becoming carbon-neutral by reducing its greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2010.
The challenge of handling the supply chain changes inherent with this initiative has been met head-on by James E. Martin, senior director of global sourcing for News Corporation. "We are actively identifying our corporate activities that contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and reducing those activities where we can, while at the same time seeking renewable sources for energy and supply management, and selecting offset projects to support our goal," Martin says.
