HIDE-Pack and Domino Integrated Solutions Group have joined to offer "Smart Boxes," enabled by radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, through the HIDE-Pack system. HIDE-Pack is a packaging technology which eliminates the need for a paper label, by incorporating the RFID inlay within the actual packaging. It involves the embedding of an RFID inlay within the structure of a package, corrugated case or folding carton, so that the inlay is not visible from the outside or inside of the package. In essence, the inlay becomes an integral part of the packaging medium. Layers of packaging adhesive preserve the inlay's performance under detrimental conditions, such as condensation resulting from cold storage and immersion in water. In-line RFID readers and antennas create a smaller footprint for encoding, verifying and validating boxes equipped with HIDE-Pack, the vendor said. In the process, companies avoid the cost of traditional RFID labels as well as printer-based systems. Domino ISG is a global systems integrator.
