RSI ID Technologies, a manufacturer of radio frequency identification (RFID) antennas, inlays and tags, has released a new class of tamper-evident RFID tags. The first item in the class is a destructible RFID tag which, upon visual inspection, appears the same as standard construction tags. However, the tag is designed to come apart when an attempt is made to remove it. The new class of tags includes those that offer additional levels of security, ranging from the ability to leave behind part of the RFID antenna to incorporate tamper-evident material construction, which leaves behind a residual adhesive, or an image that signals the occurrence of tampering, when the tag is removed. Applications for the new tags include the tracking of sensitive goods, product authentication and vehicle registration, RSI ID said.
